Role: Accountant / Bookkeeper

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes things to be accurate, organised and properly controlled.

OVERVIEW

Location: LDN £45-50k

Established design-led interiors business looking for an experienced Accountant / Bookkeeper to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function within its London operation.

Working closely with the General Manager, wider showroom team, international finance department and external UK accountants, you will oversee the financial administration of a busy, project-led business.

You will need to be comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for your own work, while also being part of a collaborative commercial team.

The Role

You will manage the day-to-day financial processes behind the London business, ensuring sales, purchasing, payments and reporting remain accurate and up to date.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Raising and processing customer invoices
  • Managing purchase invoices and supplier payments
  • Monitoring customer balances and chasing outstanding payments
  • Reconciling CRM and accounting records
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial information
  • Completing regular bank reconciliations
  • Supporting monthly payroll, including commission and holiday-pay calculations
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end processes
  • Working closely with sales and operations to ensure invoicing and payment information reflects live projects
  • Liaising with the international accounting team on reporting and intercompany requirements
  • Working with external accountants on VAT, corporation tax and UK compliance
  • Maintaining organised, audit-ready financial records
  • Reviewing existing processes and identifying opportunities to improve controls and efficiency

About You

We are looking for someone with solid practical bookkeeping or accounting experience.

Experience within furniture, interiors, retail, luxury goods or another customer-order-driven business would be particularly relevant.

You should have:

  • Strong bookkeeping and accounting fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of UK VAT, PAYE and general accounting requirements
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
  • Good Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confidence managing regular deadlines independently
  • A high level of discretion when dealing with financial and commission information
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with sales, operations, management and external advisors

AAT or ACCA part-qualified would be advantageous but is not essential.

The Opportunity

This is a genuinely important position within a successful London operation.

You will have ownership of the day-to-day finance function while being supported by an experienced wider accounting structure.

There is also real scope to improve processes, introduce stronger systems and help shape how the finance function operates as the business develops.
